Lom

Lom is a town in North Western Bulgaria, in Montana Region. Situated on the right bank of the Danube, close to the estuary of the Lom river the town is one of the important river ports of Bulgaria. It is known as "The river port of Thessaloniki and Sofia". Before Second World War Lom was the major town in Bulgarian North West. In the communist era (1944-1989) the town was left underdeveloped, instead of the preferred by the government Vidin and Montana. Population is 29,981 people (1997).
Population is 18,593 inhabitants (as of 31.12.2021 according to the data of the National Statistical Institute).
